Hi,

I'm a self-employed hypnotherapist in Manchester, UK. I am currently investigating copywriting techniques to increase the business I get through my website. (the three ws at hypnosisforchange commercialuk)

I have a question. I work with many smokers and have good success rates. However, many people do not believe in hypnosis, and appear to be unwilling to pay the price of a session because of this. "what if it does not work?"

A money back guarantee does not appear to be a good option as it leads to people "toe dipping" or "trying" the therapy. And a good level of commitment is required to stop smoking with hypnosis. Those who pay the money are more likely to be committed. Indeed, research has proven that a financial commitment increases the effectiveness of psychotherapy.

So I'll cut to the chase... I am thinking of ways of broaching this subject without sounding negative, or it sounding like a cop out. Here's some copy I have written that would be incorporated into the quit smoking copy: -

Like most hypnotherapists my answer to this question is ‘no’ for several reasons.

Firstly, you must really want to stop smoking for your own reasons. And this is not under my control, only you can decide. Ask yourself this one fairly obvious question: “do I really want to stop smoking?”

Secondly, you must be committed to stopping smoking.

A money back guarantee is a cop out! It means you can ‘try’ the approach and see if it works for you. But to be successful in any endeavour in life you have start with a commitment (“I am going to stop smoking”). Your willingness to pay the price of a hypnosis session is evidence of your level of commitment.

Thirdly, I have committed my time and energy to help you to achieve your goals. I have given my 100%, but only you can decide to also put in 100% effort.

Given a desire to stop smoking you will do very well with hypnosis. Without those qualities your effort will be half hearted, and so too will your results.

“I realise that I don’t really want to stop smoking… does that mean I am doomed to a life of deteriorating health through smoking?”

Not necessarily. People do change. Some people change their attitudes and beliefs more frequently than they change their underwear. What does it take for you to reach a stage where you are ready to change? How bad does it have to get?
