This is my first time in the forums, so I had to do the whole register/log in thing. And what did I find?
"In order to login you must be registered."
Could we drop "in order" here? I think so. But I think it's reduntant in this case because it's at the beginning of a sentence. (And, incidentally, where I usually see it at work. Can't believe we have so many left-handed people working there...)
In your first example, I actually interpreted your version the way you didn't want me to. (I found Munaiba's rewrite a lot clearer.) But I'd still keep "in order to" there, not to prevent ambiguity (didn't work for me), but stop the text sounding like a broken record. The words, "to apply this ability to influence others to facilitate and accelerate change" have a rhythm that seems very mechanical. Using "in order to" breaks it up a bit.
In the second example, losing "in order" gives us "to change to lead..." Those 'to's are a bit too close together for my liking. Again it's a rhythm thing.
In the third example I'd definitely lose "in order" (and the comma). There are only two "to"s in the sentence, so it's not as big a problem.
That being said, I'd probably end up rewriting the sentences to eliminate the problem altogether. But I won't say anything else for fear of derailing the discussion.
