I'd be interested to see what everyone considers excellent web copy (non SEO). Please let us know...
Reply to this topic with a link to some web copy that you think is great. Feel free to discuss as well.

Hiya Glenn
My first response to your poll was 'errrr dunno'.
It would've been easier to find examples of really bad copy.
But after a bit more thought, I realised that the most sincere way I can ever cast a vote for copy is to tell you whose calls to action I've followed. Surely that's the only true test?
It doesn't come down to my liking an ad, appreciating its finer qualities, finding it funny or any of that mularky. It's all about whether or not I pick up the phone or hit the Buy Now button.
So I guess to cast a really valid vote on any ad, one first needs to belong to the target market.
Here are a couple of companies who've often done a good job of convincing me to buy their products via their web marketing campaigns over the years. Their websites play an integral part of their campaigns, but they also have me on their lists. The reason I rate their copy so highly is that they keep me coming back for the upgrades.
Equis International - makers of Metastock; a financial analysis and forecasting package for PC. They're owned by Reuters - the international news agency. Funnily enough I can't say that their products are the best in the world. But they've convinced me to buy a fair few upgrades that I didn't really need. They are very good at selling online.
Cakewalk - makers of Sonar; a Digital Audio Workstation for computer based recording and music composition. I keep up with all the major music software packages. These guys undoubtedly have the slickest marketing campaign of all the four or five major players, including Apple. They work hardest at it and really manage to make their stuff sound sexy.
So which sites get you going - I mean actually buying stuff from them?

Both of the examples I mentioned above use a form of long copy. I'm not talking about the Emotional Direct Response style that we were discussing elsewhere in the forum, but they open with a good long letter telling me all about their groovy new product or upgrade; lots of pictures, font changes, sub heads, bullets etc.
Their websites do the same and typically they'll just keep on going until they run out of things to say.

Here's a link to one of the Sonar pages. Sonar is owned by the Japanese music technology giant Roland.
The page doesn't look like much on it's own. That's because they give a separate page to each of the product's features - note the links down the left hand side.
Trust me - if you're in the market for a post production or home studio package this stuff looks very good.
They keep people coming back to their site with special offers by email. Offers typically have a time limit.
Unfortunately I can't paste the HTML for their last email up here. It's all pretty standard stuff though.
